RoHS

What does RoHS mean ?

RoHS is a requirement of the European Community for the protection of human health and the environment. It stays for: Restriction of Hazardous Substances.

All Importers and manufacturers are responsible by law for their products to comply with the RoHS directive, 2002/95/EC.
It does apply for all electric & electronic equipment such as:
• household appliances
• power tools
• consumer electronics
• IT and telecommunication equipment
• lighting fixtures and bulbs
• toys
• sports and leisure equipment
The directive limit the the following sub- stances in each homogeneous material:
Lead (Pb) 1000ppm
Cadmium (Cd) 100ppm
Hydrargyrum (Hg) 1000ppm
Chromium (Cr IV) 1000ppm
PBBs 1000ppm
PBDEs 1000ppm

How to assure RoHS conformity?

As the RoHS compliance can not evaluated during a inspection or construction review, Pema offer here a special RoHs compliance check.

This RoHS compliance check is a procedure with 2 steps:

Step 1: Verification of supplier¡¯s RoHS documents

Here we review all presented RoHS documents if they are authentic and apply to the Bill of Material list (BoMs) presented with the product sample.

All materials or parts of the product not verified with the provided documentations will be precede the 2. step.

Step 2: Conduct RoHS test

Pema conduct on all non-conform materials a XRF scan test.
If some materials can not be verified by the XRF scan, additional chemical analysis have to be conducted.

The XRF scan test can not detect the
Materials Chromium +6, PBBs, PBDEs.

If all results are in the limits your product will receive a RoHS declaration of conformity including a detail photo documented RoHS test report.

Why we do first a XRF scan test and afterwards a chemical analysis?

The XRF scan test is much faster and a much more economic way to be conducted as a chemical analysis where each material has to be provided as granulate.
Note: Also the packing of your products (sales box and export carton) have to be tested for hazard materials according the Packaging Directive 94/62/EEC.
